Jewish Studies Faculty

The Jewish Studies faculty at Duke represents all the major subdisciplines in the field of Jewish Studies at top universities and colleges today. Historically, Duke has been especially strong in the study of Hebrew Bible and ancient Judaism due to the presence of a strong Divinity School faculty, which complements our world-famous Religion department faculty. In more recent years our faculty has branched out into more contemporary fields including Israel Studies, Holocaust Studies, Modern Hebrew Language and Literature, Modern Jewish History and Thought, and Middle East Studies. When our affiliated faculty, along with the Centers, Programs, and Schools with whom our faculty work, are taken into account, Duke's coverage is broader still.  We refer interested students to our listing of Core and Affiliated faculty for a comprehensive representation of Duke's areas of strength.

  • Bio

    Giuseppe Prigiotti is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Romance Studies. He received an M.A. in Italian with a graduate certificate in Jewish Culture and Society at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an M.A. in Religious Pedagogy at Università Pontificia Salesiana, Rome. He earned a Laurea in Philosophy (Philosophy and History) at Università degli Studi di Catania, Italy. His research interests include Jewish-Christian relations and religion in Italian culture. Starting from the critical reading of Jewish and Christian Italian journals from the Risorgimento, his dissertation will explore, in a dialogic perspective, cultural and religious interconnections between Jewish and Christian communities in Italy. He has published in the Waldensian Bulletin a reduction of his archival reconstruction of the first evangelical community in Catania during the Risorgimento.
