2023 INIRE Summer Program
Duke University, July 3 - 7, 2023
INIRE 2023: In the Name of God: A Voice for War, a Call for Peace
From the Ukraine to Myanmar, from the Middle East to North America, religions, East and West, seem to be divisive and implicated in conflict and war. Religious leaders’ calls for peace and reconciliation usually remain unanswered. Do religions profess peace but make war? How can we envision religions contributing to conflict resolution? INIRE was founded to promote interreligious dialogue. It now takes on the challenge of war. The Summer School and Conference will explore the past, present, and future of religious engagement with peace and war, and search for new religious paths to a more peaceful world.
The International Network for Interreligious Research and Education was founded to promote dialogue across interreligious and international boundaries. The Summer program, specifically for students, is intended to be an intensive, immersive environment for students to collaborate, discuss their research and projects, while offering two days of additional workshops and discussions, providing context for the conference, which students will be expected to attend. Students will attend workshops with senior scholars, and engage in social activities and excursions.
Schedule forthcoming.
